Wreaths Across America™ is a non-profit organization that puts wreaths on veteran’s graves during the holiday season. The mission of Wreaths Across America is to "Remember, Honor and Teach"… Remember the fallen; Honor those who served; and Teach our children the value of freedom. December 13, 2008 was unanimously voted by the US Congress as “Wreaths Across America Day” and the wreath laying is now held annually on the second Saturday of December.
The organization was formed in 1992 by Morrill Worcester as an extension of the Arlington Wreath Project with the donation and laying of 5,000 wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. The program was relatively obscure until 2005 when a photo of the stones adorned with wreaths and covered in snow circulated the Internet and the project received national attention. Thousands of requests poured in from all over the country from people wanting to emulate the Arlington project at their National and State cemeteries, spurring the creation of "Wreaths Across America."
To do its part to help in this cause, New England Warrior hosted its first Headstone Motorcycle Run in July 2009 to help raise funds to support this organization. This year, the 2nd Annual Headstone Run will take place on July 17, 2010 (Rain Date: Saturday, July 24, 2010). A $20 donation is asked to raise funds to place a wreath ($10 per wreath) on Veteran’s graves at the Union & Wendell cemeteries in Holbrook, MA on Dec. 11, 2010.
